Er erhielt mehrere Preise für sein grafisches Werk, so 1964 den Kunstpreis der Stadt Darmstadt. Seine Arbeiten wurden international ausgestellt, und im November 2000 wurde das Horst-Janssen-Museum in Oldenburg eröffnet.
